Jay Chen

Candidate for Congress in CA District 45

The child of immigrants from Taiwan, Jay Chen earned a Navy ROTC scholarship to attend Harvard University. During his professional career, Jay first worked for a global strategy consulting firm, working extensively with Fortune 500 businesses in the software and logistics industries. He then started his own real estate business. These experiences have given Jay a comprehensive understanding of the challenges we face in the global economy.

Story

Jay Chen is the President of the Board of Trustees for Mt. San Antonio Community College and a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He is running for election as the congressmember for CA-39. Jay has said, “it doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat or a Republican, you work together to complete the mission.” Chen wants to restore integrity and accountability in Washington, while standing up to pharmaceutical and insurance companies in order to provide more affordable healthcare for all. He is an alumnus of both Harvard University and Peking University, and exemplifies the non-career politician – he has not served in government, but sees problems and believes he can help solve them. He has raised more than a third of a million dollars in the first quarter of 2021. His opponent, Republican Young Kim, won the race in 2020 by a slim margin of 4109 votes.

Policy

In Congress, Jay will work to restore integrity and accountability in Washington DC and stand up to insurance and pharmaceutical companies to make health care more affordable, including making COVID-19 testing and treatment free. He proposes to increase the size and scope of small business loans so that local economies can recover, and work across the aisle to invest in education and classroom funding so schools can reopen safely.
