Congresswoman Grace Meng Fundraiser

I still remember the first time I met Grace in the Dynasty Restaurant in Cupertino back in 2012, when she came to Silicon Valley to raise money for her congressional campaign. Exactly ten years later, I’m given the privilege of helping fundraise her campaign in New York City for her reelection in 2022 when she face challenges from both poles of the political spectrum – ultra-left progressives view Grace as too conservative and republicans view her as too liberal.

Asian Americans tend to be fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I believe these views, as well as the chronic underrepresentation of Asian Americans in national politic, can be attributed to a common cultural attitude of, simply enough, generally wanting to be left alone. Regardless, to be American is to participate in one’s community and politics and to properly show support to promising representatives, and Grace Meng is one of few candidates we have representing and protecting Asian American interests. She has a proven record of being politically accessible and listening to her constituents’ voices as the vice chair of Democratic Party.

Personally, I believe it is our time to express our appreciation of her endorsement to Andrew Yang during his mayoral campaign earlier this year, jeopardizing decades of political relationships for the sake of solidarity for Asian Americans in politics. Her endorsement helped build momentum for Andrew Yang and it’s time we had the opportunity to return the favor to Grace and give to her the same support that she gave to us.
